World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like crit chance and PvE damage.
For example an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the item's current level. The cost rises with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or impact while they're being used. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended.
